Update on local GP surgeries: Church View, Dunsville Medical Centre & Ransome Practice
Healthwatch Doncaster has requested clarification from the NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group and below is what they have confirmed:
Church View Surgery – Denaby
The previous contractor gave NHS England/Doncaster CCG notice of termination of his contract and the contract ended on 30 November 2016. The notice period gave the CCG time to put the contract out to tender for a temporary provider to continue running the surgery from 1 December 2016. The temporary provider is Barnburgh Surgery who continues to run the practice to date. The surgery has never closed throughout this process. The staff have TUPEd to the temporary provider. A further tender exercise is running to secure a longer term provider for this contract. It is anticipated that news of the new provider will be announced towards the end of September and the contract will commence on 1 December 2017, the temporary contract ending on 30 November 2017.
Dunsville Medical Centre
The practice requested to close its list to new patients due to the long term sickness of one of the remaining two GP partners (there previously having been 3 partners). The request was granted and the closure commenced on Monday 17th April 2017. This means that no new patients can register with the practice unless they are immediate family members of existing patients or new long term care home patients at one of the care homes the practice already covers. The closure is for a twelve month period and therefore the list is due to reopen on 17th April 2018 unless the practice agrees to open earlier than this or requests an extension to the closure. The CCG will continue to work with the practice to secure an open list at the earliest opportunity as well as assessing the impact of the closure on neighbouring practices.
Ransome Practice – Scawthorpe
The practice currently has 3 sites at Bentley, Scawthorpe and Woodlands. Previously the practice had four GP partners covering all three sites but following retirements is operating with two. This and the increased costs of running the building at Scawthorpe led to the practice requesting to close the Scawthorpe building. This site serves approximately 22% of the practices patients. An extensive consultation has taken place with patients affected and with other interested parties. The decision as to whether the Scawthorpe site will close or not will take place in September 2017. If it is agreed that the branch will close, the patients can choose whether to remain registered with the Ransome practice by attending one of the two remaining surgeries or to register with another practice in Scawthorpe.
