Mother and son duo nominated for local hospital awards
Karen, a healthcare Assistant at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, has been shortlisted for the Patient Champion award which recognises healthcare workers who go above and beyond to make sure their patients have the best possible experience whilst in hospital.
Karen was nominated her colleague for her ability to make any patient or relative that arrives on the ward to feel welcome and at ease. Karen excels when providing care to end of life patients and their relatives, she often sits with patients when they are alone, will provide hand massages and offers refreshments and comfort for family.
In the Rising Star category, Liam is shortlisted for his work as a Procurement Category Specialist. The Rising Star award celebrates learning and development and Liam was nominated by his colleagues who have admired how he has developed in his role whilst at the same time making sustainability improvements around the Trust.
Liam has implemented several green solutions for DBTH including a reduction in the number of deliveries and storage solutions which reduce the Trust’s carbon emissions. He is also working to reduce the number of single-use plastics within DBTH by assessing the need for items such as kidney dishes and Gallipots, and switching to products which have recyclable packaging.
Karen said: “ I am proud and honoured to have been nominated for the Patient Champion award. I am passionate about the job I do and enjoy the interaction with our patients ensuring they have the best possible experience while they are under our care.’
The winners of the awards will be announced on the evening of 2 November where 500 guests will celebrate healthcare achievements in Doncaster and Bassetlaw. The ceremony itself will be hosted by Heart Radio’s Dixie.
Liam said: “ I was shocked to find out I was nominated but feel proud to have been so. I have recently transitioned into a new role within Procurement and I am relishing the new opportunities this will bring and see what positive changes I can make within Procurement and for the Trust."
There will be a total of 15 awards presented on the evening. If you would like to see the winners announced, you can follow Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals on Facebook to see the winners.
