Local Supporters Raise £16,500 Following Sponsored Skydives

On 11 August and 5 October 2024, the 21 fearless individuals took to the skies at Skydive Hibaldstow in North Lincolnshire.

The 2024 skydives mark the highest amount fundraised of any previous skydive events.

Sue Hill, a Specialist Nurse in Urology at Doncaster Royal Infirmary who raised £1730 for the Urology Department, said: “I was very scared, but it turned out to be an amazing experience.

“A big shout out to Skydive Hibaldstow and thank you to Chris, my tandem partner, who talked to me all the way through and made me feel one hundred percent safe.

“I would definitely recommend.”

Running twice a year, DBTH Charity has hosted sponsored skydives since 2022.

In its three years, the event has raised over £30,000 for the charity.

Jumpers are given a safety briefing pre-jump explaining how to position themselves at the plane door and where to place their hands.

Once briefed, they get kitted up and introduced to their tandem instructor. The instructors at Skydive Hibaldstow have a combined jump number in excess of 30,000 and over 75 years’ experience.

Following a short taxi to the plane, jumpers board and begin their ascent to 15,000 ft, which takes just under 15 minutes and is three miles above the drop zone.

Once they reach altitude, jumpers leap from the open door of the plane and experience a thrilling 60 seconds of freefall, reaching a terminal velocity of 120mph.

At about 5,000ft, the tandem instructor opens the parachute, and jumpers get to enjoy a relaxing 5 minutes taking in spectacular views of the Lincolnshire Wolds and Humber Bridge, before landing safely on solid ground.
