February Industrial Action - UNITE, GMB, RCN, CSP
Monday 6 February and Tuesday 7 February 2023
- UNITE and GMB is to undertake further strike action on for ambulance services, paramedics, call handlers, including those covering NHS 111.
- The action will take place over two periods from 6am to 12pm midday, it will then start again at 6pm and run to 12am midnight.
- On the days of industrial action people are being asked to only call 999 if it is a life threatening medical or mental health emergency.
NHS 111 call handling services will be impacted by the industrial action. For that reason, please use the 111 online service, community pharmacy and alternative local services, for advice, where appropriate rather than 111 phone line.
The RCN is also undertaking further strike action on the 6 and 7 February at the following sites across South Yorkshire:
- Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
- Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
- Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- The action will take place between 7am and 8pm
Thursday 9 February 2023
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, CSP, will undertake strike action at the following trusts across South Yorkshire:
- Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust
- Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Friday 10 February 2023
UNISON is to undertake further strike action on for ambulance services, paramedics, non-emergency Patient Transport Services and call handlers, including those covering NHS 111.
Anyone requiring Patient Transport Services will have been contacted, where relevant, to arrange alternative methods. However, the following patient journeys are exceptions to this and will be undertaken:
- Patients who need essential life-saving treatment such as renal dialysis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other cancer treatment.
- Patients at end-of-life and requiring palliative care transport.
- A limited service for in-patients who are medically fit for discharge; (as discharge transport arrangements vary by Trust, this relates to PTS provided by YAS).
The NHS is working hard to keep patients safe during strikes, while delivering the best care possible, and patients should continue to attend appointments as planned unless contacted to reschedule. Nobody should put off seeking urgent or emergency care during the strikes, with key services continuing to operate.
Other health and care services in our region are not involved in this action on these dates.
Please be assured that place directors from NHS South Yorkshire are working closely with their local health and care systems to manage any issues that may arise from the industrial action.
NHS South Yorkshire will stand up and manage a dedicated Incident Control Centre (ICC) over the imminent period of industrial action from 7am to 10pm on the affected days.
