Support for adults with a learning disability
ChAD liaise with numerous organisations and agencies to suggest reasonable adjustments to make things more accessible.
ChAD are involved in and speak up about numerous topics and projects, such as:
- Social Media Scams and Safety
- Hate Crime/Hate Crime Awareness
- Human Trafficking Awareness
- Health / Easy Read appointment cards
- Annual Hospital Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment (P.L.A.C.E) Assessments
- Learning Disabilities Mortality Review (LeDeR) Project
- Easy Read information
- Supported Living
- Access
- Care Treatment Reviews
- Transport
ChAD has used funding from Healthwatch Doncaster's micro-grant scheme in 2017 to produce easy-read appointment cards and in 2019, the money was used to help people with a learning disability stay alert about social media through different scenarios. ChAD members were actively involved throughout both projects and happy to have made a difference.
Current activity
Due to the pandemic, ChAD members have been unable to meet in person for the monthly meetings. However, some members have managed to stay in touch with each other and with Sue Millward, ChAD Peer Support Worker, either via Zoom meetings or telephone calls
They share information about Coronavirus on their Facebook page including the recent news about vaccinations in the form of easy-read documents, including on how people with a learning disability will be contacted
